This class is what is required to apply for the ND CWL license. Students must successfully pass the exam & shooting test as well as a background check done by the State to obtain their permit.

 A firearm, 2 magazines and a holster that attaches to the belt are required for the shoot 

Registration and payments are required before any course so that materials can be secured. 
Attendance is the responsibility of the student, the course fee is non-refundable, attendance does not guarantee passage of the course.

Before the class, each student will need go to the Attorney General website and fill out the ND CWL Online Application. After filling it out, PRINT a copy of the completed form and bring the printed application with you to the testing. The test administrator must sign and date the testing section on the completed application.

I suggest you read through the manual; the Open Book exam will be the material covered in the exam and you must score 100% on the exam to pass. Complete Range Waiver

Everyone who will be taking the class will need to fill out a Waiver of Liability for the Red River Regional Marksmanship Center. You can fill it out from your home computer, it will save you some time.
A $20 Range Fee that will be charged to shoot the Proficiency Test at the end of class. Payment can be made after passing the written test but before the Front Desk shuts down at 5:00 pm that day.

Proficiency Test Course of Fire

EQUIPMENT REQUIRED
-> A handgun and a holster that attaches to the belt. FOR SAFETY REASONS, NO
ANKLE HOLSTER, CROSS-DRAW HOLSTER OR SHOULDER HOLSTER WILL BE ALLOWED
ON THE RANGE.
-> Two loading devise, either magazines or speed loaders, depending on the
weapon being used. (A revolver may be loaded by hand but speed loaders will
assist in making the time limits for the shooting course.)
-> Hearing & eye protection

The target will consist of an 8½ by 11 inch colored piece of paper. 1 point will be awarded for any shot that either completely or partially penetrates the colored paper.
Pistol magazines will be loaded with 6 rounds of ammunition.
Revolvers cylinders will be fully loaded (5, 6, 7, 8 or 9 rounds depending on the weapon design).
Total number of rounds depends on the firearm.

Stage 1 (7 yard line, or 21 feet):
On the firing command, shooters will draw the handgun from a secured holster and fire 1 magazine or 1 fully loaded cylinder with the normal shooting hand, reload and then fire 1 magazine or 1 fully loaded cylinder with the normal support hand. All rounds will be fired from a standing position. The time limit for this stage will be 45 seconds for a 5 shot revolver; 55 seconds for a pistol or 6 shot revolver; 60 seconds for a 7 shot revolver; or 65 seconds for an 8 or 9 shot revolver.

Stage 2 (15 yard line or 45 feet):
On the firing command shooters will draw the handgun from a secured holster and fire 1 magazine or 1 fully loaded cylinder from a standing position, reload and then fire 1 magazine or 1 fully loaded cylinder from a kneeling position. The time limit for this stage will be 50 seconds for a 5 shot revolver; 60 seconds for a pistol or 6 shot revolver; or 65 seconds for a 7 shot revolver; or 70 seconds for an 8 or 9 shot revolver.

Minimum passing score (70%):
5 shot revolver – 14 points
Pistol or 6 shot revolver – 17 points
7 shot revolver – 20 points
8 shot revolver – 23 points
9 shot revolver – 26 points


Class Schedule

10am-3:30pm PowerPoint Course Presentation (there will be 10 minute breaks during class)
3:30-4:30pm Written Exam (1 hour is allotted for the written exam)
5-6pm Those that pass the written exam and are applying for a Class 1 License will go into the Range to shoot the Proficiency test.


What You Need to Submit After Passing the Course

All new and renewal applications must include:

A non-refundable application processing fee of $60.

Cashier’s check or money order payable to “North Dakota Attorney General.” No personal checks, cash or credit cards. Write your name on the cashier’s check/money order; AND

A photocopy of your current driver’s license; AND

Two color passport photos.

Andrew with Ike's Shooting Supply is offering photos. Andrew will be at class at 9am the day of class doing fingerprints. He will do photos after prints are done. Photos are $10.
Alternatively, you may contact a local retailer to obtain official passport photos. You may not wear headgear, uniforms, sunglasses or prescription eyeglasses in the photos. Write your name on the back of each photo. 

In addition, you must also include the following documents, as applicable:

NEW APPLICANTS: 

You must include two sets of Fingerprints. We recommend Andrew with Ike's Shooting Supply for fingerprinting as he scans fingerprints electronically. Prints are $20 per Set.
We will have Andrew come to class to do Fingerprinting. Visit https://form.jotform.com/230565884941062 at least 4 DAYS BEFORE class so he can have you information pre-filled for the fingerprinting form. You need to send your request to Andrew to get prints done. No Exceptions.

The cost of fingerprinting is not included in the class cost.
